Writing it all down.
I've always liked the idea of keeping a journal or diary. Not so much to have a place to keep all of my internal thoughts and talk to myself, but more as a way to create a record of history for my kids and future generations. A snapshot in time of how I lived, who my family was, what the times were like when I lived through them. I tried a few different ways to have my Grandmother record her memories and thoughts about the years past, but somehow my final effort of asking her to write it down by answering a bunch of questions got lost after she passed away. With the passing of my Dad much sooner than anyone would have imagined, I have also lost that link to my family history and his stories. I will make it a goal to write them down as I remember them so my children will have a few pieces of his history. I was almost brought to tears at dinner tonight when my daughter pointed out PA on a map that we were looking at online and said that's where Pappy used to live but now he died. I asked if she remembered her Pappy and she told me she couldn't really remember how he looked, but she remembers she loved him. So, through the tears I'll write this blog to my kids.....so they will have the memories written down for them to revisit whenever they like.
